audience survey

we did a survey about how our audience listen and discovers music. according to my survey more
people like streaming music from from SoundClound and YouTube.

in class we throw out ideas on how we can get our audience to listen to our music. we mention on if they listen to it live or for free online how much would they pay for they music or not that stuff. this this what we came up with

this survey suggest that the people i asked would pay £10-£20

we also talked about how we would put out our music for our audience. this is what we decided on

just like the first graph shown this shows us that my audience listen to music on SoundCloud  and YouTube so we made a playlist on put it on those's two platform.

context essay

how music was shaped in the 80s

Hip Hop in the 80s was known as the golden age for it. the ones who was mostly known in this genre
was: RUN DMC, Public enemy, Eric B, Rakim and slick rick. it was experimental sampling eclectic at the time which shaped into how it is today. 80s recorded music with digital technology  such as midi. 80s was the birth of midi which improved over time till our time to make music.

Many artiest in Hip Hop had there own style. for example Run DMC was more poetic and wild. but Rakim was more hardcore which influenced a lot of grime and hip hop today.

Hip hop was mostly used by African amarica and was known as an sub cultural movement in the 70s so it heavily influenced on youth today.

Did they influence me

These artists did really inspire me but they also didn't inspire me. They inspire a lot of artist today for example slick rick inspired nas and nas inspired my favourite artists j cole and he heavily inspired me.

my songwriting song

For my song I use an alarm I ripped of on YouTube at the start. I then used a sample that says "this is an emarganse" and used it like a drum at the start. I could only come up with the chores and 1 verse but I plan to finish it off.

with this song i use come chords u would probably hear in most song. with this i was influenced by stevi wonders

gig review 3

On Thursday the 12 of November  I want to watch a gig at kingsway college at 6 till 9 to watch the level 3 second years preform and a band called 'Vodou'.

Level 3 music second Yrs

The second Years  started the gig by welcoming engaging with the audience to give them there absolute attention. As there was getting thing ready to preform you could see the smoke in the air caused by the smoke machine giving the lights a 3D look. The seconds year started there first song with a great feel as the electric guitar stood out the most to me along side the drums and vocals. The vocals where in great harmony no clashes with each others which sounded right to my ears. the guitar thought out the gig caught my ears as the guitar player played thought song giving this nice warm feeling inside. In one of the song they used a backing track for there song and  there was a lot of feedback coming coming out of the speakers and the music technician couldn't figure out where it was coming from so he just cut the backing track  and everyone had to clap cause of it. I cant remember all the song there preformed but on song caught and the song was called 'Crazy'. such a good feeling out of that song every thing was just right the vocals drums piano I think synth was in there and bass guitar they all fitted perfectly with one another. After hearing that song i wanted to leave cause of how could it was. the lighting in every song was great different light colors were shown for different moods of the songs. And at the back of the whole thing a moving image of shapes or something like that was projected I don't know the purpose of it being there but it was good to look at. In conclusion the level 3 second years showed a lot of confident in there gig. they was they engaged with the audience, the way they stood when preforming showing they are not afraid to look at you in the eye nobody was looking at there floor or standing still there was all moving around even the drummer.

As there the concluded there side of the gig we had a 10 min to take in all of what they preformed.

After we was done with our 10 min we want back in the theater were it was held. The next gig we was going to see was a band call 'vodou'. By the name I know I wasn't going to like it. They were a three person band one works at the college as a singing teacher and the other two was out side the college a drummer and a electric guitar. they was a rock band and a very loud one. the light were flashing every where as they preformed there songs and at the back I could see some kind of film that i believe to be about poverty in other nations. purpose for that I don't really know maybe it was to do with what there was singing about i called hear the vocal cause it seemed more like she was shouting then singing. the band was all covered in face paint that you'll  in tribal place like Africa where there band name also comes from vodou. there was a lot of moment mostly the singer. In conclusion I didn't like there gig cause of how loud there was and because its not my type of music.

My Evaluation

My work with logic

My logic skills are great but needs work on a few areas like: mixing, audio, getting use to different tempos and time signature, etc. with logic I can come up with melody's and harmony's really quickly. when I was working on the songs I could pick up the chords and play them back then change them a little. with the tempo and key signatures I didn't change groove with all of them. with all the song I put a drummer in them to bring the songs to life. with the chords in some of the song was no harmonics so I added my own  and my own melody's.

Time management

my works for the projects were all completed on time without and problems. I spent most of my time on the On and on song by Erykah Badu because I like the song and the way it was composed(chords harmony etc.) son I spent my time coming up making different harmony and melody's. when it came to access time I didn't really use it much.

Research
I wont lie I didn't listen to them I just used my ears most of the time apart from Bob Marley and Michael Jackson cause I've listen to them already.I don't think I use much influence from the but I did use some of the work but changed it a bit like there chords and harmony. I've learned how to arrange my work much more tidier and new chord to use too. Next time Ill listen to the the songs that are given out to listen.

smart target

.My smart target is to learn guitar so when I make music it will sound a lot better.

.Ill like to also make a track with me and other singing rapping on it in the colleges studio.

.Ill like to enhance my piano and singing and freestyle skills.

Ill like to learn all the skill by the end of next term hopefully less then that. These I believe will make help me when I make my music weather it be producing or preforming.

Andy C

Andy John Clarke (birth name) was born on the 6th of April 1976 in Walsall England and his farther was Mick Clarke a bass player in a band call the Rubettes.

Andy C is a English DJ and producer. The type of music he plays and make are drum and bass and the equipment he uses are 4 turntables. He not a wild DJ like Skrillex or as skilled as DJ primer but he dose know how to make the crowd go wild when he mixes different songs together. he doesn't really give the audience that much eye contact thus that saying I don't think it because he shy. I think cause he has so much to do. His music with a MC really get the audience worked up every time a song comes on. my thoughts on Andy C is hes a great DJ. His songs are amazing as a DJ ill like to preform like Him.

Microphones

1)         As a general guideline, it can be said that dynamic microphones are best suited for live sound work, and that condenser microphones are more suited for use in a recording studio.
Give technical and practical reasons for why this may, or may not, be a valid statement (include diagrams if necessary).
Depending on what getting recorded like vocal or instrument like drums

2)         What are the three main polar patterns found on microphones? Describe the differences and give examples of how each could be used.
Omi-direction is all around the microphone this is useful cause it can pick up sound all around
Uni-direction is one direction this is useful for vocals
Bi-direction is two direction this is useful for picking up sound from both side of the microphone

3)         Dynamic and condenser microphones are the two most commonly used type of microphone found in the studio. Can you name any other types? Explain their basic technical features and how, or why, they might be used.
Fiber Optic microphone uses strand of glasses instead of metle wires
Carbon microphones use carbon dust
4) Give suggestions as to what you might use the following microphones for and explain your answers (using the microphone’s technical specifications to support your answers):
     A)      Audix D6: for kick drums and bass guiter because it and omidirectional mic so it easier to pick up the bass in the intruments
  1. B)    SE Electronics Titan used for drums to people sing on one mic. because its and uni directional mic it go for picking it up o both side

  2. C)     Microtech Gefell M300

Gig review 1 and gig review 2

Wednesday

A burst of emotion filled the air as the actors preformed there scene about myths of Greek. The acts preformed by the actors was so powerful made you feel as if your look at the accrual characters right on the stage in front of you. Good coordination between the actors show that they got everything under control (along side help from the there teacher).

Techniques on how the actors captivated the audience was when unexpectedly one of the actor started to rap about love. That got the audiences full and undivided attention on him it show that they don't only read off scrip of paper and act it but they also have other skills they can use to better the carries in the future. They also keep eye contact with the audience too. In on set the repeated it but with different actors due to how many actors they had and how many parts in the play they had but with that you can really compare With each other's such as some show a lot of emotions others showed less some emphasised on there speeches some were really quiet. Maybe they had to be like to fit into character but in any case they were great.

Something in between drama and music what do you get? Musical theatre! As the music played,by the piano player, the dancer sang along with it. Also coordinated with the song and there movement to give of a sensational feeling to the audiences. They didn't really engage with the audience that much for me to talk about. But they also did well too.

Thursday

Another acting classes took the stage giving the audience a burst of emotion in every scene they did.
Have a few act they were great. Having technical difficulties twice they still got thought the whole performance satisfying the audience with the emotions giving out by the acts they preformed.

Having the drama class warm up the audience Level 2 music was next to take the stage give the audiences a sense of joy, fun, and also laughter too. Engaging when the audience they most defiantly did. You can see the coordination between one other as they go thought the song. Last song they really got the audience going as they left the audience satisfied with there preform.

Level 3 music and start away engages the audience asking if they was ok and if they are enjoying the performance so far. Fanily twicing thing they start to preform there first song Michael Jackson gotta be starting something. As they sang thought the song you can see the audience enjoying the preformane. Both level 2 and 3's drummers were fantastic. Keeping the structure of the whole song strong also always looking at the others to tell them when to jump in and when to finish to the other song level 3 music sang was also great too still got the audiences satisfied with there preformane. As there show was coming to end they gave a big thank you to the music technician (grant) there music teacher and also the most important guest there, the audience.

In conclusion the whole performance from Wednesday to Thursday was absolutely great the audience love the shows I loved the whole show it was a great experience not just for me but for every single person who was there.

Skill audit

Musically skills

In music I have a good ear for music. I can hear errors in my work (or any work) and find out how to make it right.

In the music theory area I have a good knowledge of it but still need to enhance my skills on it.

With logic I find it most of the stuff easy to use but I still have a lot to learn.

I have no that much knowledge when it comes to technical stuff like: mic's, amps, hardware and cables. But when it comes to software (eg logic) I have some sort of knowledge of its.

Genre of music it is probably my biggest downfall. I don't really listen to a lot of other genre which as a musician I need to get use to the idea.

. I've never crossed the idea of me DJ-ing but its something new so i would like to try it out

. I would like to learn the guitar so I can touch other areas when making music.

. I got a general idea of  the music industry like the roles within the whole thing.

Life skills

. Me being on time isn't really a problem for me.

. I've got motivation for this course to pass with a good grade.

. I work great with other.

. I've got a good imagination for this course.

. I am concious with my heath to do with eating on time.

. I all ways listen to other when they give there thoughts and opinion and I gave my thoughts too.

. keeping my work up to date isn't really a problem for me.

    j Cole concert

On the 18th of May 2015 I want to see J Cole preform at the O2 arena in Royal Borough of Greenwich. the size of the venue was huge due to the amount of people that was there.

the event didn't have a name (as far as i know). to promoters promoted the event on the O2 arena page and social media like Facebook and twitter. Also J Cole shouted out the event too. other artist came to preform too like  Jhené Aiko, Pusha T, Dreamville artists Bas, Cozz and Omen. There all hip hop RNB artist and they were also amazing. to me the event was a big success i enjoyed my self a lot ill never forget that experience.

    The Beatles abbey road

    The Beatles abbey road

The album was recorded on 22 February – 20 August 1969 and released on 26 of September. The album was recorded in London at EMI, Olympic and Trident Studios. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Star all sang the song in the album. The one that wrote the albums song was Paul McCartney.

throughout the album all there songs have a groove that makes u want to move your feet. they all have unique sounds and instrumentals. the songs that caught my attention was here comes the sun and come together

here comes the sun has a good melody that sway you of your feet when you listen to it. the lyrics are great has a lot of meaning in them.

the song come together has lot of great instrumentals in the song. i really like the bass in it and its jazzy groove as well.

in conclusion my the song i like in the album is here comes the sun due to its melody and its lyrics.

    my role in the project

My role for the gig was coming up with the chord for the performance I came to the rehearsal and gave my thoughts. I came up with chords C major D major and E major. we decide to do our protest song on the poverty gap because we thought we can inform people to elect cheerfully. inspired by pussy riot we deiced to do a gorilla gig so we can surprise everyone with our performance.

    Evaluation

Our planning was great we met the deadline for the timescale and we was all happy about it. We was given enough time to come up with the planning.

I planned on doing a song by J Cole called note to self but didn't do it cause no one but me was learning the song.

I was also planning on doing an original song with a backing track. The track was to large so I had to use Wetransfer to send the track to grant for the performance. Sadly I couldn't do that song because one other band member didn't turn up so by myself I couldn't do it.

My part in the planning was the special effect. There wasn't  really much I could work with so all I could come up with is smoke machine and firework. Fireworks we didn't have but we had lots a smoke.

Next time I'm planning I would make sure everyone learns songs and not mess around and for me to research more on special effects.

The performance was amazing had a wonderful audience they interacted with us which was a big plus. Musically we was kinda prepared. I say kinda cause we was still learning lyrics changing who sings what and bringing in song at the last moment which worked out thank goodness for that.

My thoughts on the performance is it all work out really well at the end. The audience was really wonderful. My thoughts that didn't go so well was songs getting canceled because of one persons and having to change things for some songs because of him but again thank goodness it worked out in the end.

I don't want to sound to vain or boastful but my individual performance was awesome. Really and truthfully I amazed myself  didn't think I would performance with such confident.

The audience really was just amazing didn't think that they would respond when we was doing the interacting part in hey ya.

If I was preforming again i would learn all the lyrics for I see fire by Ed Sheeran and not mumble the words pretending to know the lyrics.

    Tuesday 9 June 2015

    my demo

thought out this year Ive been enhancing my production skills. Ive put all my work on Soundcloud so that not only I see my progress but other people I know too.

This was my first work i completed.

This is my latest work. Compared with my other work I'll say this one is better.

    Monday 8 June 2015

    Idea for the show

For the show we discussed on what song to preform. we came up with a couple but some was cancel due to same people not turning up and not learning the songs.

Then songs we have decided to do are:

    Walk this way
    run DMC

    Hay ya
    Benjamin

    Waves
    Mr Probs

    Say no more
    My original

    Our protest song
    All

    You really go me
    Davies

    Trouble maker
    Green day

    Blitzkrieg Bop
    Ramones

    I see fire
    Ed Shreeran

    Blown away
    Youth brigade

these are the songs we are preforming on Wednesday the 10th of June. For some of the song we came up with a lighting and special effect.

    Monday 1 June 2015

    summer gig

for my role in the summer gig I was to come up with some special effect. I've came up with some ideas. I've came with smoke machine and fire coming out from the roof  for I see fire. My strength for the planning was my researching skills and being able to think outside the box

    planning sheet

    J Cole note to self
with the J Cole song I planned on playing piano and singing as well. I wanted a drum solo in it towards the end.

With my other say no more I was gonna use a backing track and rap and sing the verse I wrote. I was going to have one other band member to rap and sing too.

    Friday 8 May 2015

    close the gap protest

    My skill/preparation

My skills/preparation for the gig was coming up with the chord for the performance I came to the rehearsal and gave my thoughts. since there was no piano due to it being a gorilla gig I had to sing the chores.

    My performance

For the performance I ain,t  going to lie I was nerves at first but as I was preforming I was gaining my confidence

    Others performance

The rest was nerves apart form lamer but he was out of tune completely and the band was really fast which was really hard to keep up with.

    how effective your skill/idea was

My skill such as cooperation as well as chords writing work really well when I was working Jqne I listening to his idea and acted upon them to see if they work if they didn't we would scrap that and find other chords.

    My part in the planning

What my part was writing the chords for the song after I had to learn the chores for the accentual performance.

    Others planning

Some of my classmates done filming responses on other peoples about the poverty gap which I think want really well. One was working on the lyrics for the song which was also great really repetitive and really catchy. One other was working on the social media but it didn't work out because it was not uploaded. Another role was designing the masks (which in the performance made me laugh so much) they looked great,

good thing and bad thing about the performance

The good things was the planning and the film. the lyrics was great for a protest.
The bad thing about the whole thing was the performance it was out of tune and fast.

rehearsal techniques 6 week from march

at the start of march we was given task to preform 9 song at the end of the term to be honest my class was lazy at the start of week 1 we want out of class to get something to eat it was a waste of a rehearsal time. for the whole of that week we did nothing.

week 2 we started listing some song we wanted to do. life is a high way was done form the previous term, but had to put it on hold do to the film project, so we said that's one song. we decided we was gonna do covers and original song. for original song i want to do a original so i want and task myself on making a backing track for it.

week 3 i mad that backing track (with some help of Remael) but the people i wanted on it (Oscar and Lamare)  was too lazy and said the beat was too hard to write lyrics on. so i made another beat. they said that that beat was better so we started working on it at week 5 because of course they was lazy.  at the same time Alex's group came up with 2 song to do one cover on original blown away and the thing.

at week 4 we start a new song creepers we picked it up really easily. thanks to my teacher Luke the chords
    were really easy to play.

at week 5 we was told that the performance was next week with that in mind we want all out on the song blown away got its singer (Oscar) my song was done and we got a new song done at the last min Chris brown see you around which made it 6 song.

    life is a high way
    creepers
    blown away
    the thing

    Film Project Assignment

                                   Film Project Assignment.

For the film project we learned different techniques to bring the film, we was assign to do, to life.
one of the techniques I use was cluster chords to bring tension to the audience and a sense of warning that something going to happen. we had to do a course on a composer and what he/she did. I picked Henry Jackman. he was the one who Composed wreak-it-Ralph and x man first class.

We had a meeting with the drama student to talk about what they want in there film. they told my group they wanted something scary for one part of the film and for the rest we should think of what to do. I did the scary part on logic also the motif for one of the characters. one other of my group member did the theme for the film. on logic i also put in a fly sample and pan it to make it seem like its in the room and not just a sound coming from the film i got this idea from Morricone.this worked because everyone in the room looked around

For the performance we did to live gigs and we improvised on the film only a tiny bit. for our 2 live gigs i played piano with the string sample to give it more tension.in our last gig Lamare and Oscar sang and rap a song they made. they were talking about spies and how they need to lay low. It work because we all come together and worked as a team and shared our thoughts and opinion. Musician it work because we had go communication with one another.
